This company is an innovative, privately-owned children's food company that creates exciting products under well-known children's snacks brand names. Their hunt for innovative products has taken them all around the globe and introduced them to many fascinating businesses. Like the kids who love their tasty, healthy, fun snacks, they are growing very quickly and in many new directions. Working with all the top 5 retailers, they are already the second largest toddler snacks brand in the UK, and going to get bigger. They have launched in Asia, Australia and Europe and recently in Central America as part of an aggressive export strategy. A Technical Director is now required to join the team at their offices based in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.
You will need the following: -
·A minimum of 5 years’ experience (with relevant degree and/or equivalent) gained as a Food Technologist either within manufacturing or a retailer.
·You should have up-to-date food labelling knowledge, quality management systems knowledge, due diligence controls, technical auditing and raw material control.
·You will be outgoing and a self-starter. You should be able to show initiative in solving technical problems, with an ability to trouble shoot and develop your own ideas.
·Ideally have an Intermediate HACCP Qualification
·Sound knowledge of technical accreditation systems
·Lead Auditor Qualification
·Sensory evaluation experience
·You will manage the technical side of the NPD process from product selection to raw material and packaging selection, specifications and traceability, legal compliance and factory trials – at all times having the consumer at the heart of the decision making process.
·You will assist in developing new and exciting concepts and identifying new manufacturers and processes. Although primarily office based, the role will include some overseas travel and you will be liaising with other technical consultants in other countries.
·You will work closely with the QA Manager in all aspects of the Technical Department, ensuring that all areas are adequately covered.
·Working closely with the NPD Manager regarding all trial work and proactively participate in problem solving where process considerations are identified.
·Be aware of potential changes to the industry via industry bodies, customers, suppliers and media spotlights. Proactively look for solutions/change direction of travel where necessary in a timely manner.
·Taking responsibility for food safety and its implications on brand values
·You will create and maintain supplier and customer specifications
·You will proactively develop, implement and drive quality management processes
·Develop good working relationships with suppliers. Ensure all suppliers meet approval requirements. Responsible for maintaining records to prove BRC certification for all suppliers.
·Visit suppliers when necessary and ensure that quality standards and communications are of the highest order. Improve standards and conduct European supplier audits when required
·Use supplier and Raw Material knowledge to identify potential/emerging integrity risks throughout the supply chain
·Proactively drives ways of working and results to give robust governance
·Monitor customer feedback and complaints and ensure that customers’ expectations are met.
·Ensure relevant UK, EU and International regulations are adhered to
·Review and approve packaging artwork for UK and International products
·Manage the technical budget
